Forklift Operator Training

As an Association of Industrial Truck Trainers (AITT) accredited training provider, Rushlift provides operator training for employees, apprentices, customers and businesses nationwide.

We provide operator training on the following equipment.

All training courses can be held at our Centre of Excellence in Northampton or Dewsbury, or at your own site.

 

Novice Operator Training

Who it's for:

People with no priror forklift experience or certification.

Purpose:

To take a beginner from zero knowledge to being a safe, competent forklift operator. 

What it covers:

  • Heath & safety legislation and employer/operator responsibilities
  • Forklift types and components
  • Pre-use inspections and defect reporting
  • Basic operating controls and steering
  • Safe load handling (lifting, stacking, de-stacking)
  • Stability principle and load centres
  • Refuelling/recharging procedures
  • Practical driving skills (manoeuvring, ramps, confined spaces)
  • Theory and practical assessments

Outcome:

Operator receives certification after passing both theory and practical tests.

Typical duration:

3-5 days (depending on truck type and group size).

 

Conversion Operator Training

Who it's for:

Certified operators who are already trained on one type of forklift and need certification on a different type.

(Example: moving from a counterbalance forklift to a reach truck).

Purpose:

To teach the operator how the new truck differs in:

  • Controls and layout
  • Steering and manoeuvrability
  • Stability characteristics
  • Load handling methods
  • Operating environment

What it covers:

  • Differences in truck design and operation
  • New safety considerations
  • Practical operating skills on the new machine
  • Assessment

Outcome: 

Additional certification for the new forklift type.

Typical duration:

1-2 days.

 

Refresher Operator Training

Who it's for:

Exeperienced, certified operators who need to:

  • Renew certification (often every 3-5 years)
  • Address bad habits or unsafe practices
  • Return to work after a long break
  • Meet employer or insurance requirements

Purpose:

To reinforce safe working practices and update knowledge.

What it covers:

  • Safety updates and legislation changes
  • Review of operating procedures
  • Practical skills assessment
  • Correction of unsafe habits

Outcome:

Renewed certification (subject to passing assessment).

Typical duration:

1/2 - 2 days.
